First Episode, Season 18, Survivor Tocantins

New Twists To New Season!

Our long awaited Season 18 got off to a quick start, in fact so quick, that the 16 castaways were already divided into 2 tribes before the show began.  A tribe named Jalapao, in red, and the other called Timbira, in black.  The good news is that the cast was not allowed to talk to each other until the show began.

Tocantins, BrazilA brand new twist to this season was revealed shortly after the contestants unloaded their flat bed truck and were about to embark upon a 4 hour hike to their respective camps.  Jeff announced that each tribe had to instantly vote off one member!  So needless to say, panic took over as everyone was scrambling around trying to think of who to vote for.

With 5 votes counted so far, "The Old Lady" Sandy was voted off.  Jeff asked her for her comments.  Sandy said such things as ‘was so pissed" and "obviously didn’t think it would be like this." And, "we didn’t got to know each other."

Sierra was voted off by her tribe.  One comment was that she was so quiet.  But wait, let’s back up for a second.  It was announced that the castaways were asked to be silent before the show began?  So how is it that Sierra was accused of being quiet when she was doing exactly what she was told to do?  The Producers have some explaining to do here.

Anyway, Jeff asked Sierra about the vote and she said that she was "sorry, I have a fevor of 102.  I think I could of brought alot to this team.  That’s your choice, fine by me."

So then Jeff reveals another twist.  He states these 2 are not booted, but instead taken by helicopter directly to camp, and missing a 4 hour hike in the heat carrying all the supplies.  Suddenly our booted castaways were very happy!

After each person was dropped off into their camps, a note was awaiting them.  They could get back in with the tribe by starting to get things organized and built, OR, they could search for a hidden immunity idol.

Well, Sandy, who appeared very emotional and was crying at first, decided to screw the tribe and look for the idol.  This "old lady" was out to win at any cost!

But Sierra on the other hand, was very thoughtful and wanted to show her tribe how valuable she was to them.  Sierra therefore built a shelter, all by herself, for her tribe to sleep in during the first night.  So needless to say, her tribe was impressed by her actions and were having second thoughts about booting her off.

So after the castaways first day, I would have to say that it was an emotional roller coaster for some.  A victory for Sierra, and a bad decision made by Sandy.  This is going to be a very interesting season!

Goodbye Carolina

First Castaway To Leave Survivor Tocantins

Well, we are sorry to see Carolina be the first one booted off Survivor.  She was a young, shapely lady who was eye candy to the guys, until she was called out for being winey. (Would you like some cheese with that wine?)

Survivor TV ShowThe first challenge was a race to bring back the puzzle planks, build a stair case, then climb it to release and raise the flag.  During the competition you could see that Carolina was dragging and appeared to be out of shape.

But we were thinking that Sandy would get the boot first, since she was voted out at the beginning of the show.  But since Sandy took charge of the building of the stairs in the competition, and beat the other tribe in building these stairs, which made Sandy’s value go way up as a competitive castaway.  All tribes want to win.  All tribes do not want to go to tribal counsel.  So that made people think that Carolina should go because of her mouth, as it could wear on all of the tribe over time.

This is a good lesson in how personality can make a big difference in this game.  At the end of the show, Carolina said, "I am completely blind-sided" and "pissed off" and also "embarassed".  Oh well!

How To Win Survivor Tocantins

What It Takes To Win Survivor Tocantins

The next winner of Survivor 18 will need to take a close look at Earl Cole, Winner Of Survivor: Fiji

After months of painstaking challenges and strategic alliance formations, Survivor: Fiji finally found its winner in the form of Ear Cole, the first African-American male to win Survivor and the first to win the crown with a unanimous vote. In an interview with BuddyTV, Cole talked about his Survivor journey.

cbs survivor 18Initially, he was cast for another reality program called Amazing Race. But after discovering his partner, he decided to decline his participation.

Fortunately, there was a spot available for Survivor, which he obviously took.

Upon joining Survivor: Fiji, Cole did not have a game plan in mind. And since he wasn’t really a fan of the show, he just took his time in observing and examining the people and how the game flowed. Nevertheless, he was able to perceived each person very well, labeling who was dominant, lazy, smart, and so on.

As far as alliances are concerned, Cole became very close to Yau-Man. And apart from having many things in common with him, both of them respected each other, which played a very important role in their friendship.

But despite the bond forged between him and Yao-man, Cole still had to strategize his moves in order to win Survivor. And since Yao-man was very visible, he was eventually voted off the game that led to Cole being up against Cassandra and Dre, which became highly advantageous for Cole. In the end, Cole claimed that it was every man for himself and that he had to play smart in order to end up as the sole Survivor.

Cole, a 35-year old native of Kansas City, had worked as an advertising executive prior to his inclusion on Survivor. Previously, he studied business at the University of Washington and was awarded with a National Scholastic Achievement Award. As a musician, he also became exposed to different instruments and various genres of music.

Lessons From Reality Tv: Survivor Tocantins

When Reality Shows first appeared on television they were a breath of fresh air from the same old formulaic programming that many of the networks had fallen into. Sitcoms had reaching the end of a creative cycle with the conclusion of Seinfeld, Friends, and Everybody Loves Raymond. Dramas were stagnating. The field was open for the new kid on the block.

cbs tv show survivorShows like Survivor, Amazing Race, The Bachelor and eventually The Apprentice grabbed viewers interest at an astonishing pace. The Reality Show format was so successful that not only were new ones coming out almost weekly but actors and producers of fictional shows were getting worried. As with all good things, excess spawned contempt and it wasn’t long before all reality shows were painted with the same brush.

Quality programs endured the backlash and are still going strong. They help to inform as well as entertain millions of viewers weekly. Reality Shows give us a rare glimpse into the human psyche. We see people with their guard down, openly confessing their motives, inner thoughts and feelings. More than simply catering to the voyeuristic tendencies in us all, they help enlighten us.

Survivor is the grand daddy of Reality Shows. Who will ever forget the first season when Richard Hatch played the game brilliantly and showed us how manipulation and deviousness does get rewarded? For the nave and good natured among us, the belief that people are basically honest must have been greatly shaken. What about alliances? Will people you trust always watch your back or will they place self- interest ahead of loyalty? Reality shows provide an important lesson in human nature that can pay dividends for a lifetime if taken to heart. Is Survivor just a game? Don’t believe it.

How about The Amazing Race? Here the lessons are a little different. The popularity of this award winning show has remained strong for 9 seasons. Although sometimes painfully formulaic, it gives us a broad glimpse of the world and the diversity of its people. Where else can you get a quick lesson in endurance and perseverance with so little effort? Guilty pleasure or not, The Amazing Race shows us the power of competition, the benefit of positive attitude and the grace and dignity that can be salvaged from defeat. Watching comfortably at home it may seem exciting, even easy but could your relationship withstand that level of stress? Do you see yourself in any of the racers?

You may be surprised at the number of people that take The Apprentice very seriously. Numerous blogs and websites are exclusively devoted to the business lessons gleaned from each episode. Anyone in business realizes that the situations presented aren’t always realistic. It is a television show after all with an unforgiving requirement to entertain above all else. However, business people also know that you can learn some valuable lessons from each show if you take a moment to think about it. The hope for success and the elusive search for the secret to great wealth keep people coming back week after week.

The list of benefits continues. Big Brother offers political intrigue and demonstrates the power and the folly of alliances. The American Inventor offers people a glimpse into product development and the hard work most people don’t see that goes into a great or not so great idea. Overnight success is rare.

Make no mistake. Producers and advertisers like reality shows because it gives them a new format for advertising, one where the commercials can’t easily be avoided. If you accept the fact that advertising is the price to pay for enjoying low cost entertainment, you may as well learn something about the nature of humanity in the process.

Survivor Tocantins Looking for Sole Survivor

January 23rd, 2009

Cbs Looking For Next Sole Survivor

Ever since Survivor aired in 2000, the show has always tried to make an effort to showcase diversity among its contestants, not to mention the distinctness of the setting that will serve as the grounds of the competitive reality series. Over the years, Survivor has tapped the fields of Borneo, Africa, Thailand, Australia and most recently Fiji …however this time Survivor will take its viewers to Survivor Tocantins.

Survivor TocantinsMeanwhile, Survivor is looking for possible participants worthy of its 19th season. Previous contestants have been discovered and recruited through various approaches like looking into MySpace profiles or acquiring a contact list for an association. Although the ways of discovering possible contestants may seem simple and typical, there is nothing easy about the process one has to go through in order to penetrate the game.

As other Survivor contestants have mentioned, the application process involves a meticulous and thorough procedure. Aside from the written application, one has to submit a video application. In addition, the selected candidates must go through rigorous health examinations to prove that one is physically and mentally fit. Backgrounds will also be checked.

What’s complicated about the screening process is that nearly 800 possible applicants can be requested for an interview in person in selected places like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Dallas, Detroit among others. Unfortunately, if you don’t live in the said vicinities, you have to take a trip at your own expense. Furthermore, selected contestants will be out of work for at least 7 weeks, so it will be an advantage to have flexibility at work.

Survivor has featured so many seemingly odd players, which confirms that anyone has a chance to get in and linger in the game as long as you can play the game right. Just look how far it got Yau-Man and Cassandra.

Survivor Tv Series Greatly Provides Inspiration

Ever since the beginning of Survivor and reality TV, the show contestants have often remarked about how being on the show was a once in a lifetime experience and how they have grown from being a part of it. However in the last season of Survivor millions of Americans got a much deeper insight into what that really meant.

survivor locationOne of the most popular contestants was Cirie Fields a registered nurse from Walterboro South Carolina. Cirie didn’t have much experience with outdoor life, a fact that became extremely obvious in the first episode. In that first episode Cirie narrowly managed to avoid getting voted out. Immediately afterwards she made the following comment to the audience "All of you who are sitting on the couch at home watching this, stay on the couch!".

survivor 18Over the course of the season Cirie continued to avoid being voted off the island on a few occasions. Her straightforward style and attitude made her very likeable an instant fan favorite.

Over the weeks she grew accustomed to the outdoor Survivor lifestyle, and reached a milestone in episode 11. In that episode Cirie caught a fish large enough to feed the entire tribe. Her personal growth was not lost on her tribe mates who celebrated the moment with her.

survivor episode 12Cirie didn’t make it to final episode, however in her exit interview she realized how far she has come in so short a time. In the season finale Cirie remarked that if she can do it anyone can do it, and everyone should get up off the couch.

Survivor Gabon

January 22nd, 2009

Survivor Gabon Tv Series - Was Big Premier

CBS launches its 17th season of Survivor from the spectacular country of Gabon Africa. Nicknamed "The Last Eden" the West African country is right on the equator. Gabon has a beautiful coastline set against a country that is 85% rain forest. The diversity of wildlife including gorillas and elephants could make for an interesting season.

survivor tribal councilThe Season premier did not disappoint. Two hours, two teams, three challenges and two tribal councils, all in one night. The first challenge was very early in the night and wasn’t even close. The Kota tribe easily beat the Fang tribe in a reward challenge for extra food. The Fang tribe went on to lose two immunity challenges during the evening and has already had to vote off two of its players. Fang is clearly already the underdog.

The first player voted out of the seemingly weaker Fang tribe was 24 year old Michelle, a music producer from Los Angeles, California. She didn’t like her tribe, (who picked her last) calling them "the dumbest people on earth" and was easily voted out at the first tribal council. The Second player to face the walk of shame was 61 year old Gillian, a retired nurse from Temecula, California. Gillian was considered the weakest player of the tribe after a terrible showing in the first challenge.
Dan, a 32 year old lawyer from Boston, Massachusetts, was the first player to visit the infamous exile island. It is a large island this year and Dan spent hours looking for the hidden immunity idol without even getting in the ballpark. As a new twist this season, the player that goes to Exile Island is given a choice between an evening of "luxury" and the clue as to the whereabouts of the idol. No doubt Dan is wishing he had made another choice.

In another survivor first, Randy was possibly the first player in Survivor history to have to call for medical support on the first night on the island. He hit his head in the dark and required several stitches from the medical crew. He participated in the first immunity challenge sporting a bandage wrapped around his head.
On the Kota tribe, members were busy forming an early alliance. Charlie the gay lawyer and Marcus the straight doctor formed the first obvious bond. Possibly one of the most amusing scenes of the evening was watching Charlie visibly drool over the poor straight guy who just wants an alliance. The two soon added Jacquie and Corinne to their alliance.

Survivor Gabon looks like it will be another successful season with all of the reality TV we have become accustomed to. It’s already shaping up with the usual helping of fighting, romance, back stabbing, and shrinking bodies barely covered in "buffs".
